About us

Who we are

We’re Henderson Loggie, an independent, owner-managed accountancy firm, based in Scotland since 1909.

We have more than 190 partners and staff and we serve clients of all sizes, from self-employed entrepreneurs through to charities, public sector bodies and even multinational corporations. Many senior members of our team have worked with the global giants of accounting. So, we have the best of both worlds, global accountancy experience without the stuffy corporate feel.

We support you through the full lifecycle of your business: from your first steps as a solo entrepreneur through to your successful journey into happy retirement.

Most of our clients are owner-managed businesses (as are we) based in Scotland and we love supporting the ambitions of small businesses to grow into sustainable, profitable ones.

But scale isn’t a problem for us either. We work with global corporations and through our membership of PrimeGlobal, we can provide our clients with access to advice and expertise across the UK and throughout the rest of the world.

Our vision is to be the first choice in Scotland, as a place to work and for our services to owner-managed businesses. Along with this, our purpose is to help our teams and our clients achieve their potential, to create wealth for the local economy now and to leave a legacy for the future in the communities where we are located. We hope that by achieving this, there are opportunities for everyone to succeed.

Our history

Henderson Loggie has been supporting and helping Scottish businesses to grow since 1909. This is something we are very proud of and thought we would share our story so far.

Our first year in business

James Richard Henderson and Robert John Loggie, both in their early 20s, formed the firm on 19th July 1909 in Dundee. The accounts for the first year showed turnover of £200 and a profit shared equally between Henderson and Loggie of £89.

WWII – Many of the firm’s 40 apprentices called up to the military

The outbreak of the war in September 1939 created major changes in staff, as many of the apprentices had joined the Territorial Army in 1937/38 and they were immediately called up to join the regular services.

First computer purchased

Accounting would never be the same again and production of computerised accounts for our clients was to become the everyday norm. This was to be a steep learning curve for everyone, as most of the staff and partners had never used a computer.

We grew from a medium sized business to market leaders in Tayside

In 1995 we acquired part of Ernst & Young’s Dundee practice, before merging with former partners of KPMG’s Dundee practice in 1997. The firm’s growth during this time helped the Henderson Loggie name become much more well-known in the Tayside area.

Expanded into all major Scottish cities

The firm then continued to grow in the early to mid 2000s, as we opened our Edinburgh office in 2002 and our Aberdeen office in 2005, before expanding into Glasgow in 2006.
