Due to the continued growth of our Accounting & Business Solutions team we have an opportunity for a Digital Solutions Accounts Assistant to join our Dundee team. The ideal candidate will have previous experience of working within a practice, have a passion for cloud accounting, experience in managing a portfolio of VAT / management accounts clients and strong organisational skills.


The role is varied, and responsibilities include:

  • Responsible for a portfolio of VAT / management accounts clients, across a variety of sectors, which would involve processing book-keeping entries on client systems (both in-office and onsite at the client premises where necessary), reconciling control accounts, processing month-end accounting adjustments and completion of client VAT returns.
  • Responsible for reviewing work of junior members of the book-keeping team.
  • Support our clients in-house finance teams, including monthly visits to close off month end, review VAT returns and assist with ad-hoc queries, provide proactive advice on best practice
  • Advising clients on accounting system selection (including business-relevant apps), implementation and training.
  • Actively communicate with partners in relation to their clients and liaise with other departments on mutual clients to share information e.g. payroll and tax.
  • Maximise recoveries by continually reviewing the use of technology with clients and internally, as well as reviewing our procedures.
  • Establish a professional and confident working relationship with clients, dealing with their queries, escalating these as appropriate, in order to enhance the Firm’s reputation and business opportunities
  • Coaching junior members of staff on a day-to-day basis as they work through assignments ensuring that the quality of the work is at the required standard and monthly / quarterly deadlines are met.

The successful candidate will:

  • AAT qualified or part-qualified CA/ACCA, or qualified by experience
  • Experience within a professional accounting practice, covering a range of sectors
  • Candidates must have strong bookkeeping and accounting knowledge
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and accounting software such as CCH, Xero or Sage
  • Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks under pressure
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and a client-focused approach
  • Ability to interpret and analyse financial data, and apply problem-solving skills
  • Positive, proactive and flexible attitude with a commitment to delivering high-quality work and continuous development
  • A strong team player who enjoys working collaboratively and taking ownership of their responsibilities
  • Able to build effective relationships with clients and colleagues from a variety of sectors
