Tax Assistant Manager (Private Client)

We are seeking a Tax Assistant Manager to join our Tax department in Edinburgh.  The successful candidate would have a key role within our private client team and would also work within our owner managed business team supporting the partners and directors with both compliance and advisory work.


The role is varied, and responsibilities include:

  • Manage a portfolio of less complex private clients, including reviewing personal tax returns and working with tax consultants and assistants to ensure time limits and tax payment deadlines are met
  • Review all work received within agreed timescales, ensuring that any issues arising are referred to the tax consultants and assistants for completion before any outstanding key issues are drawn to the attention of the Partner.
  • Establishing professional and confident working relationships with clients and colleagues.
  • Working on tax advisory projects across both private client and owner-managed business clients and delivering to deadline.
  • Coaching members of staff on a day-to-day basis as they work through assignments
  • Proactively contribute to departmental and firm-wide business development activities with the goal of winning new clients and consulting opportunities.

The successful candidate will:

  • Be CTA qualified; however, ATT qualified would be considered with the right experience
  • Have a minimum of 1 year of relevant tax experience post qualification
  • Strong technical knowledge with proactive approach to CPD
  • Client and employee management experience
  • Client driven and strategically and commercially aware
  • Have experience of advisory work for both private clients and owner managed business clients including inheritance and succession planning
  • Computer literate with experience of Tax software packages
  • Possess excellent organisation skills including ability to work within tight deadlines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
