The first thing that most of us will do before applying for a job is research the company you are interested in and wade through the jargon to figure out if it would be a good place to work. When it comes to your first job after university, this becomes even more important to ensure you are making the right decision.

Instead of searching around an entire website, wouldn’t it be helpful if someone wrote a blog that had all of the great reasons to join the company, in one place? Well, here are 8 reasons you should apply for the Henderson Loggie Graduate Programme.

1. We provide training & support your development

Your education and training will start on your very first day with Henderson Loggie and continues as you develop your career with us.

Throughout your training contract, we invest in Continuing Professional Development as we understand how important this is for our trainees and is essential to ensure that you are able to meet the demands of the ever-changing accounting landscape.

Training is provided via in-house updates and on-the-job coaching, and the knowledge gained along with the skills developed through your day-to-day work, will enable you to progress successfully towards your end goal of being a qualified professional.

2. You’ll meet new people and grow your network

As you would expect a vital part of your role will be to build and support the relationships that we have with our clients, but the most important part is getting to know the colleagues around you and working as a team. With several organised events throughout the year, including games nights and pub quizzes, we aim to make this transition into the workplace as easy and enjoyable as possible.

With approximately 200 staff and Partners across our 4 offices, we work as a team with clients, other professional advisers and each other. We are proud of our approachable, straightforward and collaborative style of working and are looking for people to join Henderson Loggie who share our values.

3. You’ll have a variety of clients

As a trainee you will be given the opportunity to work on a variety of clients, ranging from the smallest of sole traders and charities to major family-owned companies and not for profit organisations across our 14 sector groups. Whilst undertaking each assignment, you will cover a range of tasks, allowing you to develop the skills necessary to becoming a successful accountant.

Whether you are learning how to do your first accounts preparation exercise or corporation tax computation; leading assignments; coaching & developing junior colleagues; or attending client meetings, each day is different and brings new challenges.

4. You’ll be part of a growing, independent business

This year we are recruiting 7 graduates onto our CA training programme, to be based in our Dundee, Edinburgh and Glasgow offices. As one of the leading independent firms of Chartered Accountants and business advisers in Scotland, for over 100 years we’ve been committed to helping clients achieve their goals, and now you have the opportunity to join our growing and successful team.

5. We provide mentor & study support

Taking the first step after University can be a daunting experience but many of our employees have been in the same position as you so you’ll be in good company. With this in mind, our mentor scheme was developed to help you settle in when you first join the team and will support you throughout your training contract to ensure that you receive the help and training that you need.

Your mentor will monitor your progress and identify any additional training needs you may have and will also coordinate any additional exam support that you may require as well.

Another huge benefit of our CA trainee programme is that all registration, course and exam fees are paid for, so you don’t need to worry about funding your studies either.

6. You’ll not just be another cog in the wheel

Being an independent firm, we understand that the continued success of Henderson Loggie is entirely dependent on the calibre of the people we employ, so we want you to grow personally and professionally.

Technical ability and maintaining a high level of professional standards is important to us, however what sets us apart is our ability to deliver our service with a personal touch that goes beyond technical ability and we want you to be a part of that service.

We aim to provide the best learning experience, focused on enhancing your technical and interpersonal skills, at every stage of your career.

7. There are plenty of career opportunities

At the end of the training contract, some of our newly qualified CAs will progress within their current department, others may move into a different discipline. Whatever your decision, new challenges will lie ahead and we will offer education and support all the way.

We have staff who trained with the firm and have gone onto have senior positions at Board and Partner level, leading our service and sector teams and supporting the firm’s training and development programme.

We also appreciate that sometimes your ambitions and goals may lead you to opportunities further afield. We have former employees working around the world, including those who have moved to Bermuda, for reasons we just can’t understand!

8. We have lots of employee benefits

Although they’re not often the main reason that you’re interested in joining a company, some extra perks in the job can certainly go a long way in making the company an enjoyable place to work. Henderson Loggie offer a wide range of employee benefits, including:

✔️     31 days annual leave

✔️     Mentor support scheme

✔️     Group personal pension scheme

✔️     Perkbox (Employee perk scheme)
