Corporation and business taxes are complex and ever-changing – our advice is proactive, cost-effective and, of course, timely.
We have a large team of qualified tax specialists who have experience and expertise in all tax circumstances, gained both externally through industry and through MHA Henderson Loggie’s own wide range of business and not for profit clients.
Tax planning and mitigation
Almost any transaction will have a tax implication. Our advice is geared towards letting you know what that is and whether there are ways to minimise its impact. We can advise you over the acquisition of new businesses or the sale of existing ones. We can advise you on the most tax-efficient way to take profit out of the business or introduce new finance. We also advise owners who wish to withdraw from a business or want to reorganise its structure.
We can help with advice on measures to attract and retain staff, on terminations, as well as the administration of PAYE and NIC. Our PAYE service includes health checks for businesses, full audits of PAYE and NIC compliance status reviews and any one-off queries. We also offer many clients invaluable advice on employee benefits and employee incentive schemes, including assistance with establishing appropriate employee share schemes.
Tax return compliance
Our tax return service will help you meet the strict deadlines for business and corporate tax returns. Under self-assessment, we will do all the preparation, complete the return and tell you what tax you need to pay – and when. Our software ensures you are iXBRL compliant.
VAT advisory service
We provide a VAT service to suit your needs – from compliance in calculating VAT returns to VAT advisory. We have a specialist VAT team who can help with planning opportunities for VAT efficiency, as well as advising clients on retrospective reclaim opportunities, securing significant VAT repayments.
Our VAT consultancy services support clients with corporate finance and group restructuring, partial exemption, property transactions and HMRC disputes.
Ahead of a VAT inspection we offer a ‘VAT health check’ to ensure there will be no nasty surprises, and to make sure you are fully prepared. We can also help facilitate the inspection process itself, to ensure the visit goes smoothly and reduce the resource cost to your business.
We also offer a tax investigation support service, primarily for accountants, solicitors, clients and other professionals. This service is intended to support the advisor’s relationship with the client, rather than being in conflict with it.
Capital allowances can make a massive difference to your tax planning, tax bills and therefore your cash flow. We can help you make capital allowances claims that will maximise your tax saving.
Construction Industry Scheme
We can make sure you are fully compliant with the requirements of the Construction Industry Scheme. This will ensure you avoid the significant penalty incurred for an incorrect declaration, along with the loss of your own gross payment status for non-compliance.
We offer CIS and PAYE reviews to ensure you fully understand the new rules and are implementing them correctly.
Tax Fee Protection Insurance
Our service covers our professional fees that result from most types of HMRC enquiry or investigation. We can reclaim our costs in protecting you during a tax investigation and will be free to work on your case for as long as it takes to bring about a resolution, up to the policy limit. Our service is backed by an insurance policy, provided by a third party, which covers the work and costs of defending you in the event of a tax enquiry. For more information contact a member of our tax team, listed opposite, or email email@example.com.

As businesses auto enrol, we are seeing more and more businesses consider and take up salary exchange which can go a long way to paying for the implementation.
Going through the process as an employer ourselves, and having an implementation team who have realised the salary exchange scheme for businesses with 30 employees up to 300 employees, we understand that high employee uptake is key to business savings.
Understanding that both businesses and employees are individual was central in our decision to offer a range of communication services that clients can pick and choose from – no one understands their employees and what they will be receptive to more than you.
The services outlined below have all proven to be successful tools in our experience of salary exchange implementations;
- Presentation to Key Company Stakeholders
- Advice around contract changes
- Employee Presentations
- Employee one-to-ones
- Employee Question Drop-in Service
- FAQ Document
- Net Pay Calculator
- Dedicated inbox for employee queries
Dependant on what you require, we will tailor our quote for the provision of salary exchange implementation accordingly. Of course, we can also share our experience of what works best for different businesses and employee types if you require some help in making your decision as to what services would make your salary exchange scheme as successful as it possibly can be.
