As part of our Start-up Business Month, we are hosting a webinar on ‘How to start your own business’ on Thursday 29th October from 12.30pm – 2pm.

We have a fantastic line-up of speakers and a wide range of topics to cover to help you get your business idea off the ground. We’ll share with you some useful resources, helpful practical tips to get you started and we’ll also hear from start-up owners who will share what their journey has been like and things they have learned along the way.

Whether you’ve got a new business idea or have been in business for a few years, we are here to help support you and your business.

The Speakers

Donna Williamson
Start-up Adviser, Business Gateway

Donna provides 1:1 advice to help new business owners understand everything from starting-up to growing your business. Donna will provide an overview of the support that is available via Business Gateway and highlight the importance of getting advice early on in your start-up journey.

Donna is the longest-serving member of the Business Gateway Tayside team and has been with the company in various roles for 26 years.

Elaine Fleming
Director, Ginger PR

Passionate about delivering results that make a difference Elaine set up Ginger PR 11 years ago when she was made redundant during the 2009 recession. Since then, Ginger PR has gone on to work with local, regional and national clients, building their brands and attracting customers through effective media coverage, engaging digital marketing plans and creative social media content.

Elaine will be sharing her top tips on how to create a brand, and how to make that brand stand out in a crowded marketplace. You’ll leave with advice that you can put into action straight away – turning browsers into buyers.

Debbie Gallacher
Owner, Love Your Planet

Debbie wanted to do something more to help save our planet so she decided to leave her job as a chartered accountant at MHA Henderson Loggie in 2019 and dedicate her time to open a zero-waste store locally to help others to make these small changes.

Debbie has just celebrated her first year anniversary in business and will share with us some helpful and practical tips on the things she has learned about running a start-up in the last 12 months.

Andrew McRae
Founder, Museum Context &
Policy Chair, Federation of Small Business

Following an early career as a Chartered Architect, today Andrew is a prominent independent retail entrepreneur and champion of small businesses, publicly representing their needs as an experienced media commentator and policy spokesman for the Federation of Small Businesses.

Andrew’s session will focus on taking your business local, national and international and also that you don’t need to put your plans on hold because of the current crisis.

Suzanne Kerr
Director, MHA Henderson Loggie

Suzanne is involved with a wide variety of client work such as accounts preparation, VAT returns and management accounts services for all business types such as sole traders, partnerships and limited companies including personal tax and corporate tax guidance.

Suzanne will be hosting the webinar and live Q&A session, whilst also giving an insight into why we are running our Start-up Business Month.

Mark Hay
Director, MHA Henderson Loggie

Mark is a Director in the Accounting & Business Solutions department, working with small and medium-sized owner-managed businesses, operating in a number of sectors such as food & drink, oil & gas, manufacturing, property development, professional services, and retail.

Mark will focus on the key things to consider when you are at the start of your new business’ journey, including company structure and whether to be VAT registered.

Louise Mackie
Manager, MHA Henderson Loggie

Louise is responsible for managing a diverse client portfolio, which includes individuals, sole traders and partnerships all with varying different tax needs. Through her work, she is able to deal with the preparation of personal and partnership tax returns through to providing specific tax planning advice to both individuals and businesses.

Louise will share some of the key tax considerations when you are looking to set up a new business.
